Teeth Bonding in Sugar Land

What is teeth bonding?

Bonding is the application of a tooth-colored composite resin (plastic) to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured, discolored tooth, to make teeth appear longer, and as a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings. Bonding can be done in a single visit to your dentist.
Bonding is among the easiest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedure. The composite resin used in bonding can be shaped and polished to match the surrounding teeth. Most often, bonding is used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth. It also can be used to close spaces between teeth, to make teeth look longer or to change the shape or color of teeth.
Sometimes bonding is used as a cosmetic alternative to fillings, or to protect a portion of the tooth's root that has been exposed because of gum recession.

Why get Teeth Bonding?

Dr. Korat uses bonding to cosmetically fix these problems

Advantages of teeth bonding

Layer 1

Cost

Bonding is one of the least expensive cosmetic procedures.

Layer 1

Time

Unlike crowns and veneers, which require more time to prepare and a second visit to place them, bonding can be completed in a single visit.

Layer 1

Less pain

The procedure in noninvasive and generally requires very little tooth removal. On occasion, patients can elect to have several teeth bonded during a single appointment.

Disadvantages of teeth bonding

Layer 1

Staining

Although you can achieve excellent results with bonding, the resin does stain over time. Crowns and veneers will be much more stain resistant.

Layer 1

Durability

Crowns and veneers are more resistant to breaking and usually last much longer than bonding.

Teeth bonding for gaps

Medically known as diastema, tooth gaps are one of the most common cosmetic dental issues patients struggle with.
Teeth bonding is minimally invasive technique can close the gap between your teeth and improve your smile. Since the bonding material is matched to your existing teeth, it will not stand out. It’s very cost-effective and requires little to no prep work. Bonding also doesn’t require anesthesia.
This quick procedure can be done in one visit, without the need for molds or customized dental restorations. Dr. Korat will only need 30 to 60 minutes per tooth. The only disadvantage is dental bonding isn’t as strong as veneers and will only last typically from 5 to 10 years.

Besides, teeth bonding veneers, Invisalign and implants can be used to fill tooth gaps. Contact us at Ace Family Dental today for free consultation, and we’ll discuss your options and help you decide on what best suits you and your beautiful smile!

Teeth bonding vs Veneers

Both bonding and veneers have the same intent i.e to cover cosmetic imperfections in your teeth — but they do it in different ways.
Cosmetic bonding lasts about 5-10 years where it will need to be replaced or resurfaced, requires less tooth preparation, can be done in one visit and costs slightly more than a filling.
When compared to bonding, veneers require more tooth preparation, requiring at least two dental visits & will be more aesthetic for longer. Veneers are typically a lot more expensive than bonding, however, so if budget is a concern then bonding is a good solution for you.

Teeth bonding Procedure

Shade Selection

Dr. Korat will use a shade guide to select a shade of resin that will match the natural color of the tooth most closely. Anesthesia is often not necessary unless the bonding is being used to fill a decayed tooth, the tooth needs to be drilled to change its shape, or the chip is near the nerve.

Teeth Preparation

Before attaching the bonding, the surface of the tooth is roughened and lightly coated with a conditioning liquid so that the bonding material will stick to the surface more easily. Once the tooth is prepared, a putty-like resin will be applied to the tooth and mold it until it is in the proper shape. Then the material is hardened using an ultraviolet light or laser. After the resin is set, Dr. Korat will complete any finishing touches, such as additional shaping and polishing of the bonding to match the rest of your teeth.

Sedation, if asked

It can cost anywhere from $100 to $150 per tooth, depending on the complexity and usually requires a minimum of two teeth.

Caring for a bonded teeth

Because bonding material can chip, you should avoid doing things like chewing on ice cubes or pens. Hard foods and candies (in excess) can also cause damage to your bond. However, these aren’t good for your natural teeth either, so it’s best to avoid them generally, especially with a history of chipping or breaking teeth.
Otherwise, bonded teeth don’t need special care. Simply follow good oral hygiene practices.
Have your teeth cleaned at least three or four times yearly. Be certain that the hygienist is aware of your bonded tooth or teeth and avoids using ultrasonic scaling on the bonded surfaces.
Make sure you are not grinding your teeth at night. If you are, ask us to construct a mouth guard to avoid fracturing the bonding and to minimize damage to your bonded teeth as well as your temporomandibular joints (jaw joints).
To prevent staining, try to avoid or keep to a minimum coffee, tea, soy sauce, colas, grape juice, blueberries and fresh cherries. Do not smoke!
